Al Zawaj Al Sulhafa Wa Al Timsaha
This is something I drew for my marriage to the amazing Jumana Al Hashal on August 28, 2010. It’ll eventually go in the gallery.

This is the first page of my adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Strange High House in the Mist.” Page 2 will go up on Friday, June 26. I’m currently in the middle of remaking this whole site so please pardon the dust and broken links — information about my other comics (The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath: The Graphic Novel, Hyperborea, The Stiff, Yeperenye, etc.) will go up soon enough.
In the meantime, please check out my other big project King of RPGs.
It’s up — the second page of my new Lovecraft adaptation, “The Strange High House in the Mist.” The next page will go up on Friday, July 3.
Page 3 of “The Strange High House in the Mist!” The next page will go up on Friday, July 10.
I’m indebted to Tim Kirk’s depiction of The Terrible Old Man from Meade and Penny Frierson’s 1970s fanzine “HPL.” I had this fanzine lying around the house (borrowed from my dad’s collection) from the time when I was about 12 years old, and when I look back at it, I can’t understate the importance that the underground-style artists therein — Herb Arnold, Denis Tiani, Mike Scott, Richard Corben, etc. — had on my visualization of Lovecraft. And my art style in general, in fact. I actually read “HPL” before I read any Lovecraft stories. Definitely check it out (along with pretty much any issue of “Nyctalops”, which I didn’t discover till later, and which really needs a Wikipedia entry) if you stumble across a copy at a horror bookstore somewhere.
For this page, I owe thanks to Konstantin Pogorelov for bringing me food and looking up period cars while I was hastily drawing. The next page will go up on Friday, July 17.
This page was drawn in Seattle with the help of my tireless girlfriend, her scanner and her coffee press. The next page will go up on Friday, July 24.
I’m at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend — if you’re there, please stop by the Del Rey panel on Saturday afternoon, where I’ll be talking about my upcoming series drawn by Victor Hao, King of RPGs.
This page was penciled in Seattle with the encouragement of my girlfriend, inked at a Denny’s while eating cheesecake and talking to my friend Aaron Hahn, completed in the lobby of the San Diego Marriott, then scanned at the FedEx Office at 6th and C downtown. The next page will go up on Friday, July 31st.
The latest page! The next page will go up on Friday, August 21, the day after H.P. Lovecraft’s birthday.
This page is two weeks late, for which I can only apologize. This is my favorite part of the story — but unfortunately I’m really busy for the rest of the month with work and with promotions for my new series, “King of RPGs,” so I can’t make a weekly update schedule for awhile. (Please see the comments thread for more updates about when I’ll be able to return to the series.)
Sorry for the delay, but please hang in there and come back! I really appreciate your emails and comments.
