Animals Love Dream-Quest

by Jason Thompson on March 23, 2012 at 9:09 am

It’s true: all creatures of nature love The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath! It’s got more good speaking parts for animals and monsters than for humans, after all. For cats, the patriotic scenes of cat-on-zoog and cat-on-moonbeast battle doubtless inspire its own imagination with visions of future nocturnal combat. (Leong, thanks for the photo!)

But dogs, too, love the Dreamlands! There’s no need for bigoted, racially inflammatory Cats vs. Dogs rhetoric! Ghouls are just like big leprously decomposing man-dogs, anyway! Thanks to the awesome supporter who posted this photo on twitter!

Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos!

by Jason Thompson on March 20, 2012 at 9:02 am

I’ve written in the past about the Lovecraft-anime connection for io9.com, as well as a sidebar way back when in Michael Dziesinski’s Secrets of Japan Call of Cthulhu supplement.

But now, I’m doing a whole series of articles on the Mythos for the Crunchyroll release of the new anime “Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos”, based on the timeless premise “What if Nyarlathotep took the form of a cute girl with a vaguely tentacle-like forelock of hair hanging down over his/her/its forehead?” It’s based on the light novels by Manta Aisora, and in April Crunchyroll will be simultaneously debuting the English release of the new Japanese TV series. So RUN SCREAMING, don’t walk, over to Crunchyroll to check out my first article, The Nyarko-san Chronicles: What is the Cthulhu Mythos?! I’ve never seen an anime with so many references to SAN points!

Dream-Quest Graphic Novels Are Here!

by Jason Thompson on March 15, 2012 at 12:34 pm

After several delays (apparently the shipping company couldn’t find my house) the Dream-Quest graphic novels have FINALLY ARRIVED! During a brief break in the rain, a truck dropped off a pallet with 700 kilos of books!

If you’ve never exercised by carrying 1,500 pounds of SAN-blasting tomes up the stairs into your house, you don’t know what you’re missing. The books are now sitting in my living room in 44 boxes, but not for long; right after I send this I’m going to start signing them and sending them out in preaddressed envelopes. Luckily, it didn’t start raining while the books were sitting in my driveway.

Next step: the post office! Also, another set of books is on its way to Diamond Comic Distributors and should be arriving in comic shops within two weeks or so.
