The Beast in the Cave

by Jason Thompson on June 28, 2012 at 9:40 am

My good friends at the Couscous Collective (some comic folks I know in the San Francisco Bay Area) recently released the latest in their series of themed anthologies: BEARDS. I’d only drawn pin-ups in the previous Couscous anthologies, but this subject inspired me to draw an entire new Lovecraft adaptation… an 8-page adaptation of Lovecraft’s very first story, THE BEAST IN THE CAVE!

I always liked William Scott Home’s analysis of this story in the old fanzine HPL, and it fit the theme of the anthology, so of course I had to draw it. The entire anthology (an 80-page squarebound book) was printed by the Couscous folks, and is now available at the mockman store if you’re interested. Hopefully I’ll be able to draw something in the next Couscous anthology as well.

The Carters in Denmark

by Jason Thompson on May 12, 2012 at 8:27 pm

Catherine Lucille Carter, one of the famous New England Carters, dreams her way into a household in Denmark. Ever courteous, in this photo she is entertaining her hostess’s family. Shortly after this photo was taken, she protected the child from ravening zoogs using a hatpin.

The Legend of Bold Riley

by Jason Thompson on April 26, 2012 at 8:49 am

For those seeking more of my work, I have a 40-page story in the forthcoming full-color book of fantasy tales about an adventuress in an exotic land, The Legend of Bold Riley! The book is coming out in June-ish from Northwest Press, and it’s in the May 2012 issue of PREVIEWS. I drew the tale, “The Serpent in the Belly,” back in 2008-2009 from a script by Bold Riley creator Leia Weathington, and it’s recently been colored by Vanessa Lynn, whose subtle tones make sense out of my over-detailed inking. Here’s a sample page:

And here’s another one:

Please preorder it at your local comic store or check it out when it comes out! If you’d like to read the whole story in the original B&W, it’s right here at The Bold Riley website. Enjoy!
